Why I joined the youth cabinet
I joined the Cabinet because I felt that the voice of young people needed to be listened to and taken seriously in every decision made by the council. I also felt that young people were being told too much what was happening; I wanted them to be consulted, involved, empowered. My ongoing campaign is to promote positive images of young people and the positive activities they can engage in!
What I do within the youth cabinet
I am the current Member of Youth Parliament. This role involves me taking the voice of Reading's young people and sharing them with the rest of the United Kingdom. It also involves me attending meetings, conferences and residentials wherein it is my responsibility to tell the adults what young people think and how important their voice is! BUT ultimately, I'm a Youth Cabinet member, and I have to bring Young People's views to the group and shout them to the people that make the decisions!
